Multimedia Glasses

Posted by hardyberlin on 27th December 2006

Hey, do you like to watch videos or read your e-mails wherever you want? And that nobody can recognize it? Like that stuff you see sometimes in science fiction movies? Well, the Israels Lumus Company has invented a new pair of glasses, which look like normal ones, but can be used multi-medial also. And the funny thing about them is, that the person which is talking to you will not recognize anything. Look here for a short video-report of it from Reuters(in German, of course).

Merry Christmas,

Posted by hardyberlin on 24th December 2006

yes it’s again Christmas. And when we open our eyes and look around the world, what has changed? I don’t mean our narrow minded thinks just around us. No, I mean the global situation. I see not much, it still looks the same. The situation in Darfur is still the same(but at least the UN are talking about sending troops to there, but if they are allowed to fight and protect the people there, that is another question), the war in Iraq is still going on, terrorism is all around, some people are so affright that they even don’t put Christmas decorations out. Well, that’s one part of it.

The other one is that there where at least a few things, which made us smile about the world and the people who live on it. And at least during the holidays we should try to see this side, and be happy and thankfull. No matter what religion ou  are! This world was made for all of us, that we live in peace on it, and don’t destroy ourselfs.

So I wish you all a Merry Christmas, may the joy and spirit of it lights up our hearts and let us remember what Christmas really is all about.

So, take care and God bless you all. By the way, here is a Video for you.

And craziness goes on and on

Posted by hardyberlin on 18th December 2006

Well, that this world is, at least in my opinion crazy, I told you last time. Now I found two other articles which let me shake my head. The first one is about our drug laws, which needed to be changed immediately. And when you read this BBC News article and the comment on it at Times Online written by Robbie Millen I guess you will agree on it.

The second one was at Times Online, too. It was about Disney World and written by Jacqui Goddard, Miami: "Ho no you don’t: Disney rejects Santa lookalike" . I think that wasn’t very nice what the official there did. And considering Santa a Disney character? If they would have said that it’s a Coca-Cola character, it would be nearer by the reality, because Coca-Cola changed the colors of St. Nicholas into red because it was fitting better to the brand(remember all the nice Christmas trucks from Coca-Cola?).

Update Laser Mouse: Two weeks ago I’ve bought the MX-Revolution from Logitech, and I have to say, this one is absolutely gorgeous, and hands, bones and muscles really enjoy to work with it. I know, it’s quite expensive, but at my store there was a special sale on some products, and so I paid only 60% of the normal prize. And it was worth it.

Crazy World- or crazy people?

Posted by hardyberlin on 15th December 2006

Well, we all know that this world acts sometimes a bit crazy. Or should I better say the dirty minded people which are living on this earth? Dirty minded because of this what happened in Waco , where a 4 year old boy got suspended from school because of "sexual harassment".

Or you find some other "funny" things, like this story by Lou Dobbs(CNN), which happened at Sea-Tac airport, where a Rabbi wanted to sue the airport management, because there where Christmas trees but no a single menorah. This really is a part of a so called political correctness, which is absolutely to often misused by some people, and I agree with Dobbs that they better should seek psychiatric care immediately. Oh, by the way, this things are happening in Europa, too. Like in England, where 74% of the employers have banned Christmas decorations , because they where worried about offending other faiths(the Islamic ones). Please, can you tell me, when this world and the people on it will act normal again? Because I don’t know.

About Berlin

Posted by hardyberlin on 10th December 2006

I’ve just read an interesting article about Berlin in The New York Times. Well, like always it was from the view of a visitor, which didn’t have time enough to discover the whole city, but who has that time? You can live in Berlin since years and will still find places which you never have seen before, and at some you probably never thought that they could exist(like some clubs). But for people which are interested in Berlin it’s nice and good one with a lot of informations and links to other websites which show more( like the Exberliner, Berlin in English, specially the city guide, and there the clubs and practical tips for visitors). Join it, at least until you get an heart attack. Because if you are very prude and have a bad heart you will get one, specially when you see what they write about the dress code of the KitKat Club: "Legendary club for boys and girls behaving badly. Naughty/cheeky dress code usual - or no clothes at all, so be prepared to take something off. Big nights Fri and Sat from 11pm, with after hours session 8am on Sunday."

The new 007

Posted by hardyberlin on 8th December 2006

Well, I’ve seen the new Bond movie "Casino Royale" now, and I must say that I’m very surprised. First I was very skeptical because I’ve heard about all that stuff what had happened during the making of it(like he had to learn to drive a car with gearshift first), but now I must say that the real James Bond is back again. That one I know from the old movies with Sean Connery. Tough and hard, and not so many gadgets. Like in the first three movies. Okay, it gave a few things which I didn’t liked, like the Martini scene, but if I take everything  together it was very good. Oh, one thing he has to learn, he has to behave a bit more like a gentleman. Because: "The secret intelligence service is a service which should be preformed by gentleman only" (Walter Nicolai, Colonel, Chief of the German Secret Service in WW I)

Think about it

Posted by hardyberlin on 7th December 2006

Under the title science vs superstition a collection of essays got published by Policy Exchange yesterday. I have to tell you about it, because, in my eyes, everybody should read it with an open mind and than thing about it very closely. It’s from the think tank where Oliver Mark Hartwich from the Antibuerokratieteam is working for. You also can load down a pdf-Version of the book  from the  Homepage of Policy Exchange. Here you can read what Professor Raymon Tallis thinks about it:

science vs superstition - the case for a new scientific enlightenment

“This is a brilliant expose of the misanthropy, irrationality, and innumeracy that characterises much of current debate on issues such as GM crops, vivisection, the regulation of science, and the appropriate response to global warming. It shows how suspicion of science – humankind’s greatest collective achievement – is rooted in human self-hatred. What the book lacks in length, it makes up for in importance.”

Professor Raymond Tallis, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences

Edited by James Panton and Oliver Marc Hartwich, Policy Exchange and University of Buckingham Press, London and Buckingham 2006, ISBN 0-9551909-8-3

Here is also what James Heartfield has to say about at "spiked".

Some funny things

Posted by hardyberlin on 3rd December 2006

Sorry, but I didn’t had much time during the last weeks. Decorating my parents balcony and their x-mas tree, designing posters and postcards for the Bier Academy(for their New Years eve party and the hang-over breakfast), and the crazy weather made me a bit dizzy also. And if I would have wrote the about political stuff what happened…well, I’ll better say nothing about it.

But at least there are others which write things which cheer me up and give me a smile: Oliver M.H. from the Antibuerokratieteam wrote a superb article about the differences between England and Switzerland, especially how good things are working in the Swiss and how bad in England. It really made me smile, but then he went on, writing about the real funny stuff, and that was gorgeous.

Can you imagine, that an ambulance car needs 8 hours to transport a patient to a psychiatric hospital which is just 7,8 miles away? No? But it happened(Sunday Express), and guess why. The stupid drivers just followed the instructions of the satnav system, which seemed to work "a little bit" incorrect(maybe it had the newest software from Microsoft in it, who knows). But that the drivers where so damn stupid that they didn’t recognized that they where wrong, that is sad. Or, how the Telegraph wrote: Brain not supplied- First turn on your satnav, then turn off your common sense. Well, I guess that the drivers will need at least a few month in the same place like their patient.

Than he wrote about Jeremy Paxman, the anchorman of newsnight at BBC 2. Well, I will not tell you what, but you should see the links on You Tube which he added. After watching them I was laying on the floor and couldn’t stop laughing. It’s real fun: Politicians avoiding questions? , Newsnight weather report , or Oh my newsnight . Take a look and you’ll understand why.
