Pakistan’s Hope died

Posted by hardyberlin on 28th December 2007

Christmas is over- and what happens? The tough reality is back. And Pakistan’s hope for democracy and modernization, woman’s rights, and education for everyone is dead.

Benazir Bhutto, who returned to Pakistan to run for Prime Minister for the Pakistan’s People’s Partie, was assassinated in a suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at a campaign rally.

She wanted that everyone could get a good education, modernize the country, equal rights for man and woman- that’s what the mullahs didn’t like.

And she wanted to change Pakistan, bring it back to democracy. That’s what General Musharraf didn’t like.

The Al Qaeda has officially confessed that they killed her. But many people also blame Musharraf, some even think that his secret service is involved in it. Well, I don’t know what I should believe..

She was laid to rest in her family mausoleum today. Hundreds of thousands of people in the surrounding streets almost brought the procession to a standstill before it finally reached the mausoleum.
